Training

Training is an essential element of a successful running club. At Styal we currently have a qualified Coach, a Coaching Assistant and several Leaders in Running Fitness, who between them devise challenging and fun sessions for all levels of ability. Our members run in one of three groups, according to ability, and each group will have a Leader, otherwise known as a LiRF.

  • GROUP 1:  7.30 - 8.30 per mile pace

  • GROUP 2:  8.30  - 10 per mile pace

  • GROUP 3:  10 - 12 per mile pace

  • Essentially, members need to be able to run for about 50 minutes non-stop. With three pace groups, speed is not a factor. 

    ​

Every Tuesday there are speed or hills sessions for all three groups, which utilise the local outdoor locations, as well as the facilities at our club base, Wilmslow Phoenix.

Thursdays are reserved for running 5-8 miles over our local running routes, with training elements built in for those preparing for Marathons and Half Marathons.

We follow health and safety guidelines from England Athletics in all our activities. In winter, hi-vis clothing and head torches are mandatory.
