Training

Training is an essential element of a successful running club. At Styal we currently have a several Leaders in Running Fitness, (LiRF) who between them devise challenging and fun sessions for all levels of ability. Our members run in one of three groups, according to pace.

.  

  • GROUP 1:  up to 8 min per mile (5 min per km) pace for a tempo run

  • GROUP 2:  8 - 10 min per mile (5 - 6.2 min per km) pace for a tempo run

  • GROUP 3:  10 - 12 min per mile (6.2 - 7.5 min/km) pace for a tempo run

  • Essentially, members need to be able to run for about 50 minutes non-stop. With three pace groups, speed is not a factor.

Every Tuesday there are speed or hills sessions for all three groups, which utilise the local outdoor locations, as well as the facilities at our club base, Wilmslow Phoenix. On some occasions we all train together.

Thursdays are reserved for running 5-8 miles (depending on group) over our local running routes, with training elements built in for those preparing for marathons and half marathons.

The Friday morning daytime run is a friendly social run of approximately 6 miles, and all paces are catered for.

We follow health and safety guidelines from England Athletics in all our activities. In winter, hi-vis clothing and head torches are mandatory.
