  • What can I expect at Styal Running Club?

    A small friendly group of runners with a wide range of abilities from very fast to very slow. We are passionate about our running but also about having fun along the way. The clubs trips away and overseas have become almost legendary and we also know how to celebrate a race!

  • I can't make all of the sessions, can I still join?

    Of course you can. Some members are very active and attend all sessions whilst some pop in from time to time when it fits in around their lives.

  • I am very new to running, should I join?

    From time to time we do organise beginners groups so please check with us first. We would normally expect members to be able to run 5 miles on club runs although it doesn’t matter what pace you are able to run at. If you want to come along and just have a go then you are very welcome. If you think 5 miles is currently a bit of a challenge you might want to start off running Wilmslow Parkrun on Saturday mornings or following the Couch To 5k (C25K) programme to build up fitness and then come along.

  • How much does it cost to join?

    Membership for 2016/17 is £30 of which £13 goes to England Athletics to register you as an athlete and club member. Being affiliated to England Athletics means that you get discounted entries into races saving you £2 per race which will soon produce significant savings if you do a few races each year. We also have club colours and all members can buy club vests, currently £18 or T-shirts, currently £20.

  • Where do you meet?

    We meet in the bar of Spindles Gym which is at the rear of the Britannia Airport Inn on Wilmslow road, very close to the airport tunnels, at 6.00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. When you turn in off Wilmslow Road just drive straight ahead for approx. 200 yards turning left into the gym car park at the end of the last building. You need to enter your vehicle registration number into the machine on the gym reception otherwise you could be fined for parking. Parking is free for running club and gym members.

  • Do I need to join the gym in order to run with the running club?

    No. We have an arrangement with the gym that allows you to use the locker rooms and showers as well as have a cup of tea or coffee for just £2 per session. But do bring your own towel as there is a £1 charge to use one of the gyms. You also need a £1 coin for the lockers but you get this back when you empty the locker.

  • How long are runs?

    It varies depending on what we are training for but usually there will be two or three small groups and the shortest distance is usually 5 miles. We do do varied training though including speed work (your own speed not someone else’s!) and hill work as that’s what improves us as runners.

  • How fast do you run?

    Speeds vary but it isn’t really very important as we will always try to have a dedicated tail end runner who will run at the slowest pace of those in the group and keep them company. We also encourage the faster runners to loop around the slower runners so that we all stay together although that isn’t always practical if members are training specifically for a race.
