Styal RC Help Set Wilmslow Parkrun Record
Well Saturday was a fabulous culmination of ten weeks training a very enthusiastic group of beginners of which 25 stuck the distance and completed Wilmslow Parkrun on Saturday.
Given that many of them had never run before the course started this was a brilliant achievement and we owe a massive vote of thanks to James, Brenda and Andy who organised it so well as well as all the other club members who mucked in and helped at the training sessions but also those came along on Saturday to “buddy up” with a beginner and help them get through the 5k. We had approx. 15 club members buddying up as well as numerous others who weren’t able to run but came along to cheer everyone on.
It’s fair to say that Styal RC created a great buzz around the place with lots of whooping, hollering, high fives and general verbal support for the beginners. Below is a commentary from Wilmslow Parkrun which highlights that we also created some Wilmslow PR records!
The other fabulous thing was the support that the group gave each other. Everyone stayed until the final member of the group finished and cheered them in. This also really embraced the Parkrun ethos.
James, Andy and Brenda then presented everyone a certificate of completion of the 10 week course and the beginners expressed their gratitude to Styal RC for all the effort put into the course.
This was also the biggest turn out of New runners in Wilmslow parkrun history, a total of 30 out of the 45 first time entrants had never completed a single parkrun before. On the inaugural run, only 5 of the 175 finishers were first time new parkrunners.
